Introducing The Claremont
on Aug 28, 2025Your Home In The Cape
When we looked beyond the bushveld for our first expansion, we searched for a place that could carry the same substance our guests value. Spaces that invite the outdoors in, rooms washed with natural light and architecture in an easy conversation with its setting. We wanted somewhere authentic and immersive, shaped by history yet in touch with the present.

We found it in a 1928 manor in the leafy suburb of Claremont, Cape Town. Its story won us over. Designed by Magdalena Gertrude Sauer – one of the South Africa’s first registered female architects – it speaks of heritage, preservation and possibility. The Claremont now joins The Sabi Sabi Collection, carrying forward what you already love: a respect for place, warm South African heritage, good food and wine, and memories worth taking home.
The Making Of A Manor
Over a century ago, English entrepreneur Frederick Henry Dumas Man commissioned Magda Sauer to create a residence that married European excellence with Cape character. She answered with a Cape Dutch homestead named “The Andros”. Today, as The Claremont, the Manor House remains a faithful expression of its era. Gables catch the afternoon light, sash windows lift to the garden breeze, and timber underfoot seems to remember every footstep.

Where Luxury Slows You Down
With only fifteen rooms, the experience is quietly personal. Choose between Deluxe Rooms, Classic Rooms and the exclusive Sauer Villa, some located in the Manor House, others opening onto the gardens or nestled beside the pool.
Rooms are generous, with en-suite bathrooms, luxury amenities and incredible views. At The Claremont, service is attentive and unhurried so that a stay in the city feels as grounded and restorative as time in the bush.

Between outings to the Constantia wine valley, Kirstenbosch Gardens or the Atlantic Seaboard, linger in the sunlit Conservatory, page through books in the safari-tinged library or take in the tranquillity of the terrace under the broad Plane tree.

Dining And Drinks
Whatever the season, plates arrive with care and provenance. At the Veld & Vine Bistro, The Claremont’s signature dining experience, Western Cape flavours meet Mediterranean ease with a distinctly South African twist. The menu moves with the seasons, and the supply. Coastal seafood, fynbos-reared meats and farm fresh produce from local growers are served in the bistro, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Koffiehuis is the social hub of The Claremont where coffee is crafted from sustainably sourced beans and an all-day high tea with rituals done properly. As the late afternoon approaches, gather at the 1928 Craft Bar, its shelves lined with rare vintages and hidden gems from South Africa’s celebrated wine regions, alongside classic cocktails, small-batch gin and craft beer.

Opening Invitation
The Claremont opens its doors on 1 October. Come for a gentle pause before or after safari, unrushed nights between journeys, or a longer Cape Town sojourn. We’ll be ready to warmly welcome you to your home away from home, only this time in the Cape.
