Reflection and Gratitude – Our Year in Review
on Nov 27, 2025Dear Friends and Family
As 2025 draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on a year that has been as dynamic and layered as the wilderness we call home. It has been a year of inspiring achievements, meaningful evolution, and moments that reminded us of the fragility and beauty of life in equal measure. We have mourned the loss of several beloved members of our Sabi Sabi family, yet through these difficult moments, our unity, resilience, and shared purpose have shone through.
The Loon Family and our Board of Directors extend their deepest gratitude to each of you who have contributed to this remarkable journey.
To our staff, we thank you — wholeheartedly. Your warmth, passion, and unwavering dedication remain Heart & Soul of Sabi Sabi. It is through your commitment that we continue offering guests the profound, immersive experiences that define our “home in the bush.”[img]sabi-sabi-our-staffTo our partners and guests, thank you for your trust. Your belief in what we do — and in the landscapes we protect — means more than words can express. Every stay, every return, every recommendation is part of the greater story we are writing together.
One of the highlights of the year was being named number 1 in South Africa - Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 – World Resorts. This recognition is an honour that belongs to our entire family. It is a reflection of the heart you put into every moment of a guest’s stay — from the morning game drives to the last goodnight. Awards like these are not won by buildings or landscapes, but by people. You earned this.
Our Explore to Grow journey continued to gather momentum this year. The Chef’s Training Academy, Ranger Academy, and Hospitality Academy are flourishing, shaping the next generation of leaders within our industry and within our surrounding communities. These initiatives speak to our belief that meaningful growth must be rooted in opportunity and empowerment.
In that spirit, we are proud to have expanded our stewardship of several new community initiatives under the Sabi Sabi Foundation. Our work in education, youth development, digital and hospitality training, and village-based support has deepened. These are long-term commitments — investments in people whose futures are intertwined with our own. We are honoured to walk this road with them.
Progress at Sandringham Private Game Reserve has steadily advanced throughout the year. The restoration and development work is well underway, and we remain firmly on track for the June 2026 opening. This project represents more than new lodges — it symbolises our dedication to preserving precious terrain, restoring ecosystems, and extending our conservation footprint in a meaningful way.
A major milestone for our family this year was the opening of The Claremont Boutique Hotel in Cape Town in October. The response has been phenomenal — heartfelt feedback, and genuine excitement from guests and partners alike. The Claremont has already woven itself beautifully into the identity of the Sabi Sabi Collection, bringing our ethos of warmth, hospitality, and quiet elegance into a city setting.
At our existing lodges, enhancements have brought new energy and elevated experiences. The introduction of Loon’s Lounge at Bush Lodge has offered a refined, welcoming space that honours our founders and encourages connection. Meanwhile, the newly completed decks at Selati Camp have transformed the lodge’s sense of place, creating tranquil spaces where our guests can breathe, reflect, and feel part of the wilderness around them. We also completed an extensive refurbishment of Little Bush Camp, with refreshed suites and a more intimate main lodge area that honours its quiet, private nature. These changes have deepened the sense of calm and connection to the bush.
Throughout all these developments, our commitment to sustainability and conservation has remained the compass that guides us. The delicate balance between Community, Conservation and Tourism continues to shape every decision we make. Our role as custodians of this land is a responsibility we hold with immense care.
As we step toward 2026, we do so with optimism, purpose, and the shared belief that, together, we can accomplish the extraordinary. The challenges will come — they always do — but as we know from the rhythm of the wild, unity is strength. Just as herds move together across the plains, protecting one another as they journey forward, so too do we.
To every member of the Sabi Sabi Family: thank you for your dedication, for your trust, and for your steadfast “can-do” spirit. To our guests and partners — past, present, and future — thank you for choosing us, supporting us, and being part of the ongoing story of the Sabi Sabi Collection.
To those who will be working during the festive season, your commitment is deeply appreciated. And to those taking a break, may it be restful, joyful, and well-deserved.
May this festive season bring peace and happiness to you and your loved ones. And may 2026 greet us with growth, renewal, adventure, and the ever-present spirit of the wild.
Ubuntu — I am because we are. Stronger Together.
