A Week in the Bush Vol. 253

on Apr 10, 2019

Welcome to another instalment of our weekly recap. It has been a very productive week for the most part, with our guests all enjoying some fantastic sightings all around.

Emerging through the wet grass, from the morning rain, this mating pair of leopard made their way toward an open area where they proceeded to rest for a short period before mating again.

After setting out from the lodge to begin our safari, we were drawn to an area by the loud sounds of a large clan of Spotted Hyena at the base of a tree in which our residential territorial male leopard was feeding off the remains of his warthog kill. As the kill got smaller in size, it became impossible for him to keep it balanced up in the tree and the hyenas found themselves a small scrap to fight over.

What a treat it was to come across this female leopard! She spent some time sleeping in a tree before a good rub, then proceeded down to continue her morning.

Shortly after leaving Little Bush Camp one morning, Tyron and his guests spotted tracks of lions. They decided to follow up and after almost an hour of tracking, they were rewarded with a sighting of a pride of lions on the open plains in search of their next meal. They watched as the lions stalked wildebeest but to no avail.

The following day, the lions were located again and it seems they were successful through the night as they were found looking very full and content, resting near a seasonal pan.

We continue to enjoy the rewards of the recent rains and greenery throughout the reserve, bringing with it sweet new grasses and wonderful sightings of a diverse variety of grazers, browsers and mixed feeders alike, as well as many species of birds, including the rarely seen Grey-headed Kingfisher.

Until next time...
