A Week in the Bush Vol. 242

on Jan 23, 2019

The cats really have stolen the “show” again this week with many amazing sightings of these beautiful creatures...

We were fortunate enough to follow up on Maxabeni and Msuthlu who had been mating close to Bush Lodge. After losing them in the thickets, we decided to return the following morning and to our surprise, we didn't just find two mating leopards, we found the female with a young Wildebeest kill and the male trailing not too far behind marking his territory. Then just as we were about to leave the sighting, a second female – Ntsumi - entered the area after picking up on the male’s scent and decided to join the party of two and investigate.

N’weti male leopard was found putting his balancing act to the test as he made himself comfortable in a Marula tree.

After successfully taking down a baby zebra, Ntsumi’s kill got taken away from her by some cheeky hyenas who then proceeded to fight over it.

Far in the distance, on top of a rocky outcrop with the rising moon, we saw a silhouette of a leopard against the twilight sky. We went closer and were treated to this beautiful sighting of the Kigelia female leopard. One of our guests said “...and there she is, like an angel.” A couple of days later, she was at it again – showing off her incredible beauty whilst posing on a fallen tree.

As the end of drive one morning, a pack of wild dogs were located resting in the shade. There was a herd of impala not too far from them and every so often one of the canines would lift his head but didn’t show too much interest in food.

We have had some incredible general sightings this week with all species out and about... and some getting a little closer...

Until next time...
