A Week in the Bush Vol. 226

on Sep 26, 2018

We have enjoyed many incredible sightings over the past week and hope you enjoy this week’s selection of highlights...

Just before sunset we came across the young N’weti male leopard having a cat nap in the shade of a Magic Guarri bush. A hyena came strolling by and woke him from his sleep, but the leopard didn’t seem too perturbed and went back to sleep. After a few minutes, he opened his eyes, gave a good stretch and headed off for his nightly activities.

Always a welcome face – Xovonekela! This older male leopard took shelter under a Sausage Tree for some shade as he was digesting his impala kill, constantly keeping a close eye on his kill which was safely stashed above him.

The ever-handsome White Dam male secured himself a meal in the form of a duiker but seemed the feasting and heat of the day took its toll on him as he tried to sleep it all off.

Not to be outdone by his son, Maxabeni had also been successful in taking down a young impala ram. His rest was disturbed by a herd of elephants making their way to a nearby waterhole, sending the leopard off into some thick riverine vegetation until the elephants moved off.

Finishing off the leopard highlights of the week, Ntsumi was also seen on a kill – safely stashed in a tree with some hyenas lurking below.

A large clan of Spotted Hyena were found on a young Giraffe calf kill on Tuesday morning. Even during the mid-morning heat, they were all getting involved in consuming as much as they could, however, one heavily pregnant female seemed to be guarding the carcass from some other individuals.

General game sightings have also been fantastic with some great sightings of pretty much everything...

We end this week’s blog with a very special sighting...

Until next time...
