Dramatic sunrises kick start these beautiful summer days which can easily leave one speechless. It’s not only the magnificent colours of the African sky which is mesmerizing but even the “background music” making it all so spectacular. The dawn chorus of countless bird species welcomes another day in Africa. Birds sing their glorious songs to attract mates and to advertise territories. A perfect match to an African sunrise!

Occasional thunderstorms bring about much needed rains and turn the dry landscape into a pretty paradise. The bush looks beautiful in February... the grass is lush and green, the trees are fully dressed with leaves and flowers present their attractive colours to a medley of insects. It’s hard not to fall in love with it all!

The famous Marula tree bears its fruit in February. This causes much excitement as elephants are seen all over the reserve enjoying these delicious fruits. They turn yellow in colour when ripe and can be enjoyed by humans and many other animals such as baboons, monkeys, kudus, duikers, etc. The fruit is used locally to brew a strong beer and to make a tasty jam amongst many other uses. These iconic trees are of course also synonymous with the delectable Amarula liqueur – enjoyed best on safari!

Many animals synchronize their breeding with this time of year as resources are plentiful. This means we have many “babies” of all sorts of animals discovering their new, wild world! The buffalo calves in particular are exceptionally cute and we’ve been lucky enough to see many newborns! The zebra and blue wildebeest have also given birth to many youngsters creating much delight for our guests and guides alike. With an abundance of food around for predator and prey, we have been seeing a lot of animals as well as fantastic interactions between them. Perfect for safari!

With so much activity taking place together with the gorgeous landscape, it’s not hard to fall in love!
