A Week in the Bush Vol. 188

on Jan 03, 2018

We wish you all a Happy New Year and may 2018 be a fantastic one!

We watched as the Southern Pride moved up onto a large termite mound where they continued to play with one another. To make the picture even more perfect, all this happened in front of a beautiful sunset. The following morning, they were seen resting in front of Earth Lodge!

We were surprised to see the Birmingham males and 4 Kambula females on the reserve one morning and they did not disappoint! We watched them quench their thirst and soon thereafter, they went on to successfully take down a buffalo right in front of Frederik and his guests!

Video is not recommended for sensitive viewers.

The two Birmingham males fed off the remains of a buffalo they had killed. The one male dominated the kill, not allowing any of the 4 females to feed. They then moved on through the rain to have a drink of water.

The females were seen again, possibly trying to stalk some kudu. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and moved on into the night as the heat subsided.

The two young Avoca males have also been around and were seen reaffirming their bonds by grooming each other before falling asleep close to Bush Lodge.

While heading back to the lodge after a great safari, we bumped into Maxabeni who was very relaxed walking past our vehicle, before he headed off into the thick bush.

The Msuthlu female was left less than impressed after a Crested Francolin gave away her position while she was trying to hunt some impala.

With all the new babies around it's an amazing time to be out on safari and enjoy many adorable moments with some of the youngest animals on the reserve.

A Kudu cow really takes full advantage of the flowers of summer.

A highlight was this extremely young elephant calf follows its herd to a nearby seasonal pan for an afternoon cool down. Kevan managed to capture this adorable little one as it got to grips with its trunk!

Until next time...
