Sun protection

The African sun is harsh almost all year round, and can be harmful even when you’re not in direct sunlight. Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential to provide protection along with  cool, lightweight clothing and comfortable shoes.

Clothing & attire

What’s most suitable in terms of clothing may vary from season to season, but lightweight clothing and comfortable shoes are always a must. A jacket is recommended as nights can be cool. Neutral colours are best for safari activities. You can also find a broad range of safari clothing in our boutique shops. Consult our reservations team for advice on weather and clothing specific to the time of your trip.

Basic medication & first aid

Our sites are equipped with first aid kits, and many of our staff members and managers are trained to use them. We recommend that you bring your own personal medication, which includes anything you might need for motion sickness or allergies, as well as the occasional headache or upset stomach. Because our lodges are remotely located, it’s never a quick trip to the nearest pharmacy, so be sure to bring anything you think you might need.

Safari viewing equipment

Needless to say, a camera is a must, and a tripod is useful at watering holes and other static viewing areas. Be sure to bring extra memory cards and batteries, and take the opportunity to charge your camera equipment whenever you can. Binoculars are available on game drives, though we encourage you to bring your own for viewing opportunities from your room or around the lodge. It’s also advisable to bring a flashlight or headlamp for walking around the lodge at night.

Luggage regulations

Different airlines have different luggage regulations, particularly flights on smaller aircraft. It’s essential that you make yourself aware of these regulations before travelling, and adhere to them. It’s advisable that you bring a backpack for carrying snacks and other essentials during safari activities. You will be venturing into the heart of the African bush, so be prepared for your luggage to get a little dusty.
