Nestled in a remote corner of the Walker Bay Wine region (approx. 95km/60mi from Cape Town) you will find this gem of a winery. A little off the beaten track, situated on the Hemel and Aarde Ridge you will find Creation Wines. Creation’s reputation ensures them to be one of the best know wineries in the Walker bay region.

JC and Carolyn Martin established the farm in the early 2000’s. Both hail from a wine background, Carolyn related to the Finlayson family and JC being from Switzerland, speaks for itself. It was by no means an easy task but through sheer tenacity, they have established one of the best know wineries in the Walker Bay region.

Apart from the production of the world class wine, Creation Wines are actively involved in sustainability, biodiversity, conservation and the maintaining of these through long term projects. This is something that we at Sabi Sabi firmly believe in as well and have been practising on a daily basis for the last 40 years. Creation, similar to Sabi Sabi, believes the amazing terroir (land in our case) given to us, to use in “creating” in their instance, amazing wines and in ours an all-encompassing bush experience is but a gift. Therefore, it needs to be nurtured, looked after and maintained. At Creation Wines numerous long-term biodiversity as well as sustainability programs are in play. The farm complies and operates in line with the IPW (Intergrated Production of Wine Scheme) ensuring that the above happens and takes place. Creation’s efforts were rewarded through their wine boasting with the “Green Seal” as proof of their passion and efforts towards sustainability.

The above makes for an amazing partnership. Pursuing and striving toward a common goal, even though we are miles apart. One of the most sought after and well know wines being produced and bottled at Creation Wines is their Creation Reserve Pinot Noir. The terroir and the average yearly temperatures make for “hallow” Pinot Noir vine growing conditions. This immaculate “creation” has all the trimmings and more of what is expected of a world class Pinot Noir. Medium bodied, fruit forward and fragrant.

On the nose spice, dark cherries and an undertone of strawberries. On the palate, red currant and berry with just enough acidity, finished off by smooth silky tannins and a full mouth feel. If you are planning on pairing your Creation Pinot Noir, this wine shouts and screams DUCK in capital letters! A suggested pairing would be Grilled Duck breast with a cranberry jus, honey glazed oven roasted root vegetables, roasted garlic and parsnip puree, and smoked marinated shitake mushrooms. The sweet and slightly sour from the cranberry and the honey glaze, smokiness from the garlic and earthy taste of the mushrooms will pair beautifully with this wine. The acidity in the wine will cut through the fattiness of the duck allowing both wine and duck to shine on its own.
