on Oct 17, 2016In the coming weeks, we will be looking back at a great Monochrome Monday Blog series and look forward to exciting new ideas going forward. We hope you enjoy this week’s selection of our favourite elephant and buffalo images in monochrome...
“The antics of young elephants are always entertaining to watch. This calf was chasing an older member of the herd.”
“Up close and personal. When such a relaxed animal is in close proximity like this, it can take your breath away as your eyes connect.”
“Fights between buffalo bulls get quite intense, and I enjoy photographing these battles by zooming quite a bit into the action.”
“A massive bull elephant replenishes his body with fluids lost from the condition of ‘musth’. I feel the dramatic sky added some depth to the scene to give it that little something extra.”
“A moment captured just after the birth of this buffalo calf.”
“A young elephant calf gets playful while having a drink.”
“An old buffalo bull slowly makes his way towards a waterhole.”
“A big bull elephant poses and feeds, allowing guests to capture some beautiful images of this impressive tusker.”
“A subject with irregularities, like this buffalo cow, usually allows for some interesting photographs, rather than capturing images of a normal looking subject.”
“A giant’s foot. No matter how large their feet are, they walk effortlessly and silently through the bushveld.”
“A buffalo bull lies down in the cool waters of a pan, while soaking up the morning sun seemingly contented with his current state of solitude.”
“An intimidating sight as a large bull in musth moved toward us in a cloud of dust.”
“A buffalo lifts its head up into the wind to smell for any potential dangers before moving. During this sighting the buffalo were just grazing and moving with their heads down, and did not provide for great photographic opportunities. But for a second or two this buffalo lifted its head up and I was ready to shoot.”
“A very large bull elephant decided that the grass next to the vehicle was greener than that of the surrounding bush.”
“This has got to be one of my favourite images this year of one of my favourite animals. Baby animals are always great to spend time with, but there is just something incredible about baby elephants. They are very much like humans in so many ways and always offer hours of entertainment.”
“A long trek for water.”
