Monochrome Monday #49

on Nov 23, 2015

A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away. ― Eudora Welty

I never fully appreciated the idea of taking pictures in life to document events or holidays, or pretty much anything in fact. It has only been over the last several years or so that I have discovered the importance of it and I do regret all the moments I have lost to neglect. Nowadays, I like to take the time to appreciate moments, mostly in our wild environment, but also in everyday life. The point I’m trying to make is, take more pictures! Don’t forget to enjoy the moment when you’re in it, but keep the quote above in mind... Below are some moments of mine that will now never be forgotten. I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of wildlife in monochrome.

01Mike Palmer Buff Bull

Buffalo bulls are often the focus of our attentions due to their impressive size and horns however, this female caught my eye and proved to be equally as impressive.

02Mike Palmer Cub 121015 1

This image represents the first ‘proper’ sighting that I’ve had with this young leopard cub, and I felt very humbled that he allowed me the opportunity.

03Mike Palmer Fourways 111015 1

I love yawn shots! I think it would show if one was to review all my images, but for me there is just something “cool” about capturing a big cat exposing those phenomenal canines.

04Mike Palmer Fourways 111015 2

The Fourways male lions that have been in the process of taking over the territory are absolutely beautiful and I just can’t get enough of them. I am hoping that they stick around for a while and are able to sire some cubs to maturity.

05Mike Palmer Lisbon 291015

Leopards have my heart and this one, the Lisbon female, is very special.

06Mike Palmer Mongoose 151015

All things great and small... The Dwarf Mongoose is by no means an impressive animal in terms of size, but the curiosity that these creatures exhibit is more than appealing.

07Mike Palmer Serval 151015

Servals are amongst my favorite cats and adding to that the opportunity of shooting a “dirty portrait” made for a very memorable experience.

08Mike Palmer Solo 131015 2

Hands down, the best looking lion that I’ve ever laid eyes on. Solo is magnificent, but currently without a partner and moving on in age so he may endure some very tough times ahead.

09Mike Palmer Vulture 181015

Vultures, like hyenas, are often thought of as horrible creatures, but there is sheer genius and dare I say, beauty in their ‘ugly’ designs.

10Mike Palmer Zebra 161015

No matter how closely you look, there is always more detail to behold in natures boldest form.
