As another week passes, we hope you enjoy this week’s selection of highlights in the latest edition of A Week in the Bush.

We continue to see large herds of buffalo on the reserve, and one amazing sighting was in front of Bush Lodge as the herd grazed and wallowed in the waterhole in front of the lodge.

Trackers perform a vital role on all our safaris – a skill used to interpret the bush that few can master. One of our highly skilled trackers, Sydney Makukule, takes the time to explain the wonders of this art in the form of a leopard track.

Speaking of leopards, we were inundated with amazing leopard sightings this week! Patience and perseverance paid off for Little Bush and her cub who were successful on numerous occasions this week despite losing one known kill to a hyena. Little Bush’s cub even took time out to practice her stalking technique! The cub’s father, Maxabeni, also joined them on one of the kills earlier in the week. This was not without some drama as he chased them both off the kill and later allowed the cub to feed.

Whilst stopping to watch a Lilac-breasted Roller, Kigelia popped out of the bush and made her way towards us along the road.

An old face reappeared in the form of Mahlathini. He was looking tentative as he made his way through Maxabeni's territory.

White Dam’s cub was also seen as he tried to hunt a scrub hare but unfortunately failed and he lay down and groomed himself.

Something we don’t often get to see is the moon rising and setting in one day! What an amazing sight to see.

A large male wildebeest watched as the sun set far on the horizon and brought about the dangerous cover of night.

We have had some amazing giraffe sightings, and one being of this female giraffe as she paused for a moment to allow her young one to suckle, this is often one of the most harrowing times as mom has to be on high alert in case of any threats. And another, of this giraffe bull who was silhouetted by the setting sun behind him.

We end the week on a high with news that the Southern Pride were able to secure a good meal for themselves in the form of a buffalo cow and a calf. This is a much-needed meal for them as in recent days they were looking a bit skinny. We are also sad to report that 3 of the cubs are missing/no longer with the pride bringing numbers down to 11 cubs. We are unsure what happened to these three.
