This last week has been amazing in terms of sightings and I think we can all agree it has brought on an awesome end to one year and a fantastic start to another. To the animals in the bush though life goes on as it always has, here are the highlights from the last week in the bush!

The Southern Pride has been particularly active and have brought down a few buffalo in different parts of the reserve, the cubs are all looking strong and healthy and their playful attitudes have not yet been lost to the stresses of adult life. They have dominated the scene this week and have brought many a smile to our intrepid guests’ faces with their playful antics.

The Charleston males were seen down in the Southern section of the reserve but have subsequently not been around in this last part of the week, they were last heard to be further south east of us.

The general game has been abundant and there have been numerous sightings of Elephants, Buffalo, Rhino and many of the multitudes of other animals we are able to come across.

The leopards have also been particularly successful what with all this wet weather we have been having - helping them to mask their scent as well as the storms muffling their movements.

Little Bush and her cub were seen on an Impala kill earlier in the week and she along with her daughter Kigelia were seen to be hunting Impala just the other night again.

White Dams male cub has been seen out and about a few time but while still a little weary of the vehicles he has still allowed us to be part of his everyday life once or twice.

The smaller things have been exceptionally active and we have been seeing multitudes of different frogs as well as insects emerging after the heavy rains softened the sun baked earth. We have been exceptionally lucky to be able to view some very relaxed Jackal pups as well throughout the week.

Birding has been fantastic and we have even spotted a few that don't usually call this area home such as the Dwarf Bittern below. The residents have made a show of themselves and have definitely been enjoying the massive amounts of food the rains have brought in the form of fruit as well as insects.
