A Week in the Bush Vol.119

on Sep 08, 2016

This week has been amazing in terms of what the bush has had to offer us. We can't turn left or right without stumbling across something amazing.

The wild dogs have come back with a bang and have been seen regularly over the last few days. Their pups are growing so fast and are beginning to become very brave. They were seen to chase hyenas all over the place as well as tree both Maxabeni and Kigelia.

Maxabeni has not been seen too much since the wild dog incident, apart from once when he had killed a jackal and had hoisted it up a tree and again when he was out scent marking near Bush Lodge.

Kigelia was spotted outside of the Mandleve Presidential Suite at Bush Lodge a few days after her ordeal with the dogs. Little Bush and her cub have been seen around Selati Camp fairly often and she continues to make an amazing amount of kills with which to support her young one.

Mandleve male and Hlarulini have been mating non-stop for the last few days and it looks like Hlarulini is spending as much of her time in the southern section of the reserve as she can.

The Southern Pride and their new additions have been taking down buffalo after buffalo and continue to demonstrate what a successful pride they are. The four four-week old cubs have not been bumped into but we are certain they are still doing well as mom keeps moving off in their direction every other day. Floppy Ear’s two male cubs are becoming really boisterous and keep the rest of the pride on its toes.

The Wahlberg’s Eagles have come back and are all frantically building or maintaining their nests. It is a good sign that Summer is well on its way to the bush. The other birds have all also been looking for prime nesting sites and are out in force after the insects that have come with the warm weather.

A male cheetah made a brief appearance on the reserve and we spent a good deal of time with him while he was here.
