A Week in the Bush Vol. 263

on Jun 26, 2019

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments and places that take our breath away.” ~ Unknown

The young Ntsumi female leopard was actively looking for something to hunt, the tall grass made it almost impossible for us to spot her, but a special sighting just watching her on her mission.

We spent quite some time with the White Dam male leopard over the weekend as he went about his business of patrolling his territory and hunting, making use of numerous termite mounds for a nice height advantage to see if there was any prey around. He approached a waterhole one night and a stunning reflection appeared in the water as he had a drink before moving off into the night.

The Southern Pride and young Talamati males have been together all week. They had a slow start to the week as they were just lazing around and didn’t seem to have any plans to get moving.

A committee of vultures flying overhead led us to a giraffe carcass where we found close to 100 vultures and around 30 hyenas feasting! What an incredible sighting as neither species was prepared to give up their spot... Read more about the incredible sighting here.

The following day, we heard some lions calling and they didn’t sound too far from our location at Bush Lodge. We immediately headed off on safari towards the lions and we soon came across the Southern Pride as well as the two young Talamati males feeding on the remains of a giraffe carcass. They were surrounded by a large Clan of Spotted Hyenas who were building up the courage to take back their meal. After a couple of attempts, success was theirs and the lions moved off towards the closest watering hole.

Until next time...
