A Week in the Bush Vol. 227
on Oct 03, 2018The N’weti male was grooming himself in a riverbed while a female leopard started calling nearby. This guy was not phased at all, continued grooming for a while and went flat to have a little snooze. Two days later, this all changed as we came across the young male mating with Ntsumi. This would be Ntsumi’s first litter should mating have been successful.
Staying with the leopards, we had some sightings of Msuthlu, Kigelia, Maxabeni, White Dam as well as Xovonekela this week.
Msuthlu female
Kigelia female
Maxabeni male
White Dam male
Xovonekela male
General sightings have been spectacular again this week!
While watching some impalas drink at a waterhole, our attention shifted towards a sudden cloud of dust that turned out to be two warthogs fighting. The one was flipped on his back and was quickly back on his feet and out of there, running into the bush leaving the victor to trot around proudly.
This Rock Monitor was basking in the sun on an old Knobthorn tree stump.
Buffalo have been seen in herds this week as they make use of the numerous waterholes around the reserve as we wait for our first proper rains of the season.
When nature frames your shot! A giraffe curiously looking our way.
A Fork-tailed Drongo hangs around a few bull elephants, hoping to catch some insects disturbed by their presence.
After waking to trumpeting from elephants and excited hyenas laughing, we came across an amazing scene where a clan of hyena had stolen a kill from a pack of African Wild Dog and were getting chased around by the nervous elephants.
A breeding herd of Elephants settle down to rest in a shady thicket during the mid-morning rise in temperature experienced on the reserve.
How mesmerising are zebras?!
Whilst watching a Crash of Rhino wallowing in a waterhole, excitement kicked in as a small pack of wild dog appeared to steal the show.
Until next time...
