A Week in the Bush Vol. 186

on Dec 20, 2017

This week has brought with it sightings of different species of babies and some awesome interaction between mom and baby!

We have experienced some mixed weather this past week with overcast conditions as well as very high daytime temperatures too with many animals frequenting the waterholes and puddles around the reserve!

We have enjoyed a few sightings of a pack of 6 wild dogs as they got chased around by this wildebeest at sunset! Later in the week we found them resting after feeding on what seems to have been an impala.

The Southern Pride was moving during an evening drizzle of rain as they attempted to find a potential meal.

The two Avoca males have been out in full force, making their presence known to all by roaring well into the night. We ended the week with a sighting of them mating with three females, and showing signs of having had a good meal the previous night.

The leopards have also been out and about this week with sightings of Little Bush, Kigelia, Kashane and Maxabeni.

Kashane was resting on a termite mound and with the weather being overcast, he was likely trying to keep warm as well as have a good vantage point should any prey pass by. Some impala caught his attention and he began to move closer until he was approximately 15 meters from them when the wind changed direction and the impalas picked up on his scent which sent them running!

It seems the Little Bush female is pregnant and was seen walking from drainage line to drainage line looking for den sites. This is very exciting news as she has proven to be a great mother, bringing both Kigelia and Ntsumi to independence.

Maxabeni positioned himself with a good vantage point while grooming before a lengthy rest for the remainder of the day.

As beautiful as ever, the Kigelia female was resting in the heat of the afternoon within a shaded Marula Tree.

We hope you have enjoyed this week’s recap!

Until next time...
