A Week in the Bush Vol. 181

on Nov 15, 2017

We ended last week’s blog with the Southern Pride and some uncertainty surrounding the pride. We are happy to report that twelve members of the pride have been reunited and were last seen on a buffalo kill. One of the cubs is still separated from the pride, but when we last saw it, it looked to be in good condition and we hope we will soon have news that it has been reunited with rest of the pride. We unfortunately have not seen the other missing cub.

At the start of the week, we woke to distress calls. We followed up to find the Mhangeni Pride who had taken down a buffalo. Despite the constant drizzle, the pride worked their way through the carcass as there were plenty mouths to feed whilst some of the cubs couldn’t contain their excitement and chased one another around with full bellies!

The two Matimba males were also seen this week, resting throughout the afternoon only slowly getting active late into the evening.

General sightings have again been spectacular and we share some of these special sightings with you...

A male cheetah moved through the property utilising vantage points such as pushed over Marula trees and Termite mounds in order to lock down a potential meal that he can pursue.

We were treated to a wonderful sighting of a the young Ntsumi female leopard in stunning afternoon light as she stalked a Common Duiker. Unfortunately for her, she was thwarted by an inquisitive hyena which gave away her presence.

Kigelia female was also seen moving through her territory and marking every now and then.

A pack of 8 African Wild Dogs were slowly starting to relax as the morning temperatures started to rise but then they got the scent of a Bushbuck inside Bush Lodge and off they went to pursue.

Until next time...
