A Week in the Bush Vol. 180

on Nov 08, 2017

We have enjoyed another week of amazing sightings here at Sabi Sabi and we hope you enjoy the week’s recap!

Not only do our guests enjoy the comfort of our lodges, but the wildlife does too! Here the Kashane male leopard rested outside Earth Lodge’s Amber Presidential Suite, whilst an impressive elephant bull walked by!

The Little Bush female was quite active this week allowing for some wonderful sightings of her as she went about her daily routines.

Little Bush’s youngest female offspring has been showing off her character this week, posing beautifully for our guests and also not letting the hyenas get the better of her! We watched Ntsumi as she took down a fully-grown impala ram, but she was unable to hoist it in time before hyenas stole the kill from her. She moved on from this and secured another meal in the form of a Duiker and this time, being a smaller kill, managed to hoist it safely away in a tree.

The White Dam male was also seen a lot this week, marking territory and trying to pick up on the scent of another leopard in the area.

Franscois had an incredible sighting of this Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill who was eating a Flap-necked Chameleon and it took him a while to get through the tough skin!

A Spotted Hyena cub came running down the road as the rest of the clan was enjoying the remains of a buffalo.

The full moon was out this week and our rangers managed to capture some amazing photos of the wildlife with the moon in the background.

A pack of Wild Dogs were left to relax near a waterhole after they had made a kill in the early hours of the morning.

Moving on to the lions...

The two Matimba male lions were successful in taking down a buffalo. This is a big meal for them and will keep them busy for a few days, and also allow the Southern Pride to hopefully enjoy their kill without any disturbances. A Side-striped Jackal tried his luck at scavenging this buffalo kill from the two Matimba males but was unsuccessful in the end!

This past week has once again proven to us that nothing is certain out in the bush. The Southern Pride started the week on a high, with numerous kills, and ended it with a lot of uncertainty.

Not for sensitive viewers.

The original Mhangeni Pride was seen on Tuesday morning, all with full bellies. It seems like during the night, this pride met up with the Southern Pride, leaving the Southern Pride split with only 8 members being seen on Tuesday.

We hope to have some good news on the state of the Southern Pride leading into next week’s blog.

Until next time...
