A Week in the Bush Vol. 179
on Nov 01, 2017The Southern Pride were looking somewhat hungry earlier in the week and had numerous unsuccessful hunts but their luck was soon to change as they managed to take down 3 buffalo in a 24-hour period!
The first kill was witnessed by Terry and his guests. Terry wrote an amazing, blow-by-blow, blog on this sighting so for those of you who missed it, have a read and enjoy his insights, video and images! Lions vs Buffalo
Less than 24 hours after this first kill, the pride took down a further two buffalo at once! What an incredible sighting!
*Warning: Not for sensitive viewers*
Things soon heated up as the two Matimba males made their way towards the pride and their kills. One lioness tried in vain to defend the pride’s kills against these big males but the safety of the cubs is always priority and the pride moved off after having more than their fill!
The following day the pride was seen moving through the reserve before settling down to nurse their full bellies.
We have enjoyed some spectacular general sightings this week and will let the photos speak for themselves...
Leopard sightings have been spectacular to say the least!
The Kashane male was actively searching for his next meal atop various termite mounds – even looking into some holes in the mounds where warthogs may be hiding.
Both Maxabeni and the Little Bush female visited Selati Camp this week and took a shine to the Ivory Presidential Suite!
The young Kigelia female was seen after a short period of absence. A strikingly beautiful leopardess!
On a beautiful clear skied afternoon safari, we had the privilege to witness the Ntsumi female attempting to hunt. She is a very energetic female and loves to climb and as she was moving along, she would climb on fallen down trees to have a good vantage point and scan her surroundings for any potential prey. After a while of not finding much to hunt, she lay down on a high raised termite mound to have a rest.
Until next time...
