A Week in the Bush Vol. 153

on May 03, 2017

The week started off with regular sightings of the Kigelia female leopard, and she continued to feature throughout the week with some interesting interactions between her and Maxabeni who seems to have picked up on her mating with the Kashane male. Maxabeni chased Kigelia up a large Marula tree as she constantly growled at Maxabeni as he tried to approach her. An incredible interaction between the two!

White Dam was unsuccessful in her hunt on a herd of impala before disappearing into the dark of the night.

Little Bush and her cub were a lot more fortunate and managed to take down a young male impala.

An elephant calf plays with a bush as if it were another calf!

This zebra stallion gave us a very stern glance as we drove past his herd while they grazed on uncaring of our presence.

This was the first time we had had such a relaxed sighting of a Slender Mongoose. It literally sat staring at us bobbing and weaving behind the grass.

Moving on to the lions...

The Southern Pride have been active this week and constantly in search of their next meal. The pride is well, including their 14 cubs and we have been privy to some amazing interaction between them. They missed a hunt at the end of the week when one of the cubs gave away their position – a harsh lesson learned.

The two young Avoca males have been seen on the reserve this past week on the remains of a kudu bull they had taken down.

We ended the week with an amazing sighting of a pack of wild dogs who made a kill right in front of Bush Lodge and decided to relax under a Marula tree for the rest of the day.

Until next time...
