A Week in the Bush Vol. 147

on Mar 22, 2017

It’s been a busy week with more amazing sightings... so let’s not waste any time... we hope you enjoy this week’s blog as we look back to the highlights of the past 7 days at Sabi Sabi!

Definitely worthy of first mention is the news that the young Kigelia female has been seen mating with Kashane male. We are all extremely excited about this as this will be Kigelia’s first litter should mating be successful.

This week has brought with it some pretty special sightings of Little Bush’s cub as she continues to entertain us with her playful antics! Here she was seen chasing lizards around on a rocky outcrop. Later in the week she was, once again, enjoying herself by climbing up and down a tree in the rain.

Not too far away, the Little Bush female was spotted, and had seemingly made a kill in the night but decided to rather head off in pursuit of an unknown male leopard who could possibly be the same male she had a recent altercation with.

As for Maxabeni, he’s still hard at work, doing regular patrols and marking of his territory. He was seen stalking a herd of impala, but was not successful in his attempt.

Large herds of buffalo continue to move through the reserve, allowing for spectacular sights of massive bulls, right down to newborn calves.

A beautiful waterbuck bull gazed at us from behind his leafy shield allowing for this interesting shot incorporating the leafy frame around him.

A magnificent male Elephant treated himself to a cooling mud bath during the heat of the day. He made sure that every nook and cranny was well soaked through.

These two bull elephants had a good battle which made for a great sighting as it was misty and on the other side had a beautiful sunrise!

We witnessed some special interaction between this mother and baby kudu as they stood atop a termite mound at sunset.

A Dark Chanting Goshawk was feeding on something in the grass and flew up into a tree with a beautiful sunset behind him.

The Southern Pride all seem content with life, allowing us regular sightings of them as they go about their daily routines.

On Tuesday, the Mhangeni Pride brought down and killed a kudu cow before being joined by the three Majingalane males who ravenously finished off the carcass within 2 hours.

With the Full Moon earlier in the week, Sheldon managed to capture this beautiful sight as he and his guests returned to Bush Lodge from safari. The Full Moon made the photo seem as if it was taken in broad daylight!
