A Week in the Bush Vol. 145

on Mar 08, 2017

The Southern Pride have been spending quite a lot of time in reasonably close proximity to some buffalo in the South of the reserve, close to Earth Lodge. Their patience and perseverance paid off when they managed to take down a buffalo a couple of days ago – a great source of nourishment for the pride and it’s 14 cubs! They since made a second kill on Monday night and only scraps remain!

We have had a lot of male leopard activity on the reserve this week...

The Kashane male leopard has been seen regularly this week. He showed interest in some kudu passing by, but he became distracted by the scent of another leopard, possibly a female.

The Xovonekela male leopard has also been around – in the Southern parts of Sabi Sabi and seems to be on the scent of another male leopard...

Maxabeni was found making his way from Selati Camp to Little Bush Camp in the Northern section, constantly marking territory and patrolling on the roads. Scent marking during the summer rainfall season can be a lengthy process as most of the time the scent is washed away, thus marking will be more intensive.

The Toulon Pack of African Wild Dog were on the reserve over the weekend! We witnessed 15 individuals moving through the property in search of food.

General sightings have again been plentiful!

Numerous breeding herds of elephant have been making their way through our reserve with the males showing interest in the females in oestrus.

As the sun sets in the West, we were fortunate to look upon this majestic giraffe as it gracefully wandered across the horizon.

An amazing little Scarlet Dragonfly perched on a twig next to us and stayed there quite a while allowing us some amazing photographic opportunities!
