sabi sabi ranger stories
my experience at 'nkombi camp'
As I walked into Bush Lodge, the other people who had been selected were already there. I introduced myself and we all started chatting and immediately got on very well. Everyone was so friendly and we were all happy that we had been chosen to take part in the ‘ranger selection camp’.
We packed our bags and our supplies into the Land Rover and set off for Nkombi Camp. Along the way we saw a few antelope species and a hyena lying in a water pool.
When we arrived at Nkombi, everything felt so foreign, but I knew I was going to enjoy the next 10 days.
Our first task was to clean up the camp and make it our new home. We were all chatting and wondering what was in store for us.
Every day we had new and exciting challenges - from a 20km walk one day to building structures out of spaghetti and marshmallows!
The walk for me was amazing and was more of a mental challenge than a physical one as I pushed myself to the end.
The spaghetti and marshmallow structure building was a good challenge and bought out everyone’s strong points.
For me, the hardest task was the three days we had to prepare for a speech, which we had to deliver in front of management - I was very nervous but in the end it was not so bad.
The 10 days had both ups and downs for me but it was something I certainly will remember for the rest of my life!
