Ivory Suite

newly built ivory suite at selati camp

November 2010

Since the day it opened the Ivory Presidential Suite at Selati Camp has been host to kings, queens and famous personalities. In July, an accidental fire destroyed much of the interior of the suite. Fortunately quick response, followed by the excellent teamwork of the Sabi Sabi firefighting team, prevented any damage to the other suites at Selati or to the surrounding bushveld - but the Ivory Suite required a complete rebuild.

Ivory Suite Selati Camp

A brand new, magnificent Ivory Suite has now been completed, including some wonderful improved facilities. To complete the reconstruction, renowned South African interior designer Stephen Rich was called in to recreate the opulence, luxury and sense of history for which this presidential suite was famous.

After scouring the country for antiques, Persian rugs and superb fabrics, the new suite has now been fully furnished and decorated. There is, once again, an imposing carved wooden bed covered in sumptuous heavy linen, and draped with romantic netting. Beautiful rugs bring colour to the floor and authentic pieces including railway memorabilia complete the old world ambiance. A superb feature is the enormous bathroom, big enough for the magnificent chaise lounge which stands alongside the oversized stone bath and walk in shower. There is even an al-fresco shower outside, accessed by the huge sliding doors.

For pure outdoor relaxation, an intimate patio and pool have been included, overlooking the surrounding bushveld. And, as part of the ultimate in 5-star service, guests staying in the Ivory Suite are treated to their own ranger and Land Rover for the daily safaris. While there is always the option of joining the other Selati Camp guests for dinner around the fire in the open-air boma, there is also the option of dining privately in the Ivory Suite.

Very recently the readers of Conde Naste Traveler once again voted Sabi Sabi one of the best hotels in the world, electing to place us in the list of the World's 100 Best Hotels, and 6th best on the African continent. The re-opening of the Ivory Suite coincides wonderfully with this latest international accolade.
