Sabi Sabi Makes World Top Ten
July 2007
Sabi Sabi has done South Africa proud by being named by Travel & Leisure Magazine as the 7th Best Hotel in the World, 6th Top Small Hotel, and 2nd Best in Africa and Middle East. This year has seen Sabi Sabi make a huge jump in popular ranking: a testament to the extensive refurbishments and major upgrades undertaken in recent years.
Travel & Leisure Magazine - the 'Wall St Journal' of the USA Hotel and Travel sector - published its 2007 Travel Awards last week, and confirmed Sabi Sabi's position as one of the travelling public's favourite global destinations. The magazines' subscribers were invited to participate in a detailed questionnaire with categories including service, accommodation, location, food, value and ambience. Respondents were carefully screened by Travel & Leisure, which allowed only one questionnaire per subscriber, with travel industry professionals being disqualified. This competition has become a benchmark for excellence in accommodation.
Citing Sabi Sabi's competitive edge as 'A classic bush experience with a lodge to suit any mood', the accolade acknowledges its four separate 5-Star lodges, each with a very distinct character and atmosphere - those of "Yesterday", which is encapsulated in the experience at the romantic Selati Camp, "Today", which can be found at the more contemporary Bush Lodge and Little Bush Camp, and "Tomorrow" which is epitomised by the ground-breaking Earth Lodge.
All four lodges offer an unforgettable day and night open Land Rover safari experience. A magnificent and unspoiled part of the ancient African continent, the Sabi Sabi reserve has a great biodiversity of habitat and wildlife giving guests an excellent chance of close, on- and off-road encounters with the 'Big 5' - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard - as well as wild dog, cheetah and hundreds of other species of animals, birds and plants. It is this promise of the safari experience of a lifetime that draws guests back to Sabi Sabi time and time again.
"The lodge and accommodation upgrades, together with our unique brand of warmth, hospitality, fantastic safaris and commitment to service and excellence have resulted in the Top Ten placing," says Sabi Sabi Managing Director, Patrick Shorten. "Our constant aim is to ensure that each and every guest has a truly memorable Sabi Sabi experience."
