Unprecedented Earth Lodge

on Aug 03, 2017

The unique and captivating sanctuary that is Earth Lodge is captured in a new video, showcasing our world-renowned and award-winning lodge from all angles. A sense of wonder is instilled when watching footage of this luxury safari experience. Respected as one of a handful of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World, once described as the most environmentally sensitive lodge in Africa, Earth Lodge is truly in a league of its own.

The concept of an eco-sensitive lodge with minimal impact on the environment was curated to portray the lodge of ‘tomorrow’. Taking its cue from the surrounds, the location of the lodge was selected through careful consideration of its inhabitants and the natural choice was an area of bushveld with unpalatable grass, which would not inhibit grazers.

Sculpted within a slope of earth, the lodge is almost invisible in the landscape. The unexpected entrance from a hidden corridor opens to a panorama of uninterrupted bushveld and a world that has parted with traditional bush lodge characteristics. Hidden under the earth, the lodge reveals itself in a series of sensory discoveries.

Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is a masterpiece of artistry and innovation in harmony with nature. The foyer, dining areas and lounges bring the outdoors in, capturing natural light and exposing the views out towards the bush in every possible direction.  Sensible design and attention to the effect of natural elements such as wind, rain and the change of seasons adds to this unique architectural wonder.

During warm days in the savannah, the Day Bar area is set up to enjoy delicious meals and refreshing cocktails in ankle-deep water. Private plunge pools, comfortable daybeds to lounge on under covered patios, or exhilarating al fresco showers at each of the 13 suites are sublime in the summer heat.

A spectacular sunken fire pit lounge has been built for guests to enjoy an after-dinner drink, while gazing up at the night time starry sky, contemplating the magnitude of the cosmos, conversing about spectacular safari sightings, or merely enjoying being out in the open African bush. The underground candlelit cellar, with an award-winning collection of premium wines, is a perfect private area to enjoy a gastronomical feast prepared by our internationally acclaimed chefs.

At Earth Lodge, one is acutely aware of a sense of calm and a restoring spirit. Soothing sounds from the impressive water feature and natural rock pools instil a sense of peace. Serenity and tranquillity can be found indulging in treatments at the Amani Spa, where our professional therapists use the finest products with ingredients borrowed from nature.

Dramatic minimalism is detailed in functional pieces of art carved out of the natural elements of the environment. The lodge makes a statement as a piece of art in its own right - complemented with raw elements, natural fabrics and luxe textures.

Lashes of luxurious touches of gilded metal, hand crafted furniture, natural finishings and earthy, muted pantones in the suites blend in perfectly with the surroundings. So much so that a herd of elephant quietly moving toward the nearby watering hole literally takes place on your doorstep. The iconic Amber Presidential Suite glows with warmth with the masterful use of light and décor in gleaming colours of its name, the grand amber bead chandelier the focal point of this definitive suite.
