Back in time

on Jan 18, 2018

The pioneering magic of the grand old steam train era is captured in the essence of Sabi Sabi’s Selati Camp, which is named and furnished around the history of the now disused Selati railway line.  The Selati Line - built by President Kruger – was used to transport gold to Lourenco Marques in Mozambique (now Maputo).

Selati Camp exudes a sense of history and olde-world charm. The ambience of yesterday is created by the use of flickering lanterns in the evening, which illuminate the paths, with the shadows a nostalgic reminder of a time when life was a little slower, definitely quieter and a lot less complicated. This exclusive lodge has only seven thatched luxury suites, each beautifully designed, with the ultimate in romance being the Lourenco Marques Honeymoon Suite - a must for newlyweds, the celebration of anniversaries or those rekindling the passion in their lives as Valentine’s Day approaches.  Sophisticated and luxurious, this splendidly upgraded suite with its modern-day comforts and opulence, is breathtakingly beautiful.

The billowing king-size bed of cool linen and rich fabric is draped from above with fine netting, creating a deliciously enclosed cocoon. The large stone walled courtyard leads off the living area and is absolutely private, featuring an outdoor Victorian-style bath, where you can immerse yourself into soothing warm water - your only company the birds flitting around the enclosed bush garden.  Cool off in complete safety and seclusion under the double al-fresco showers in the heat of the day, or experience the spray of warm water under the star-studded African sky in the dark of night.

Antique artifacts and authentic memorabilia – sourced from railway museums and antique stores – beautifully complement the custom made décor, with natural elements such as wood, thatch, stone and leather.

Reminiscent of a bygone era, classic safaris and authentic adventure, this small lodge is an ideal refuge for the nature lover. As animals continue their age–old trek on their natural migration path through Kruger Park westward, their instinctive memories bring them silently through and around Selati Camp – a viewing treat for our guests.

Experience this very special part of Africa as it is, as it was, and as it should always remain.
