sabi sabi ranger gallery: richard smit
Richard grew up on a farm 100km east of Johannesburg. Straight out of school he enrolled at the Centurion Academy in Pretoria where he achieved a Diploma in Nature Management.
He completed his year of practical training at a private game reserve close to the Kruger National Park, after which he took his first game ranger position at a reserve near Pretoria.
Richard joined Sabi Sabi in 2007 and hasn't looked back ever since. With four years under his belt he is now a qualified FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) level 3 guide - with an absolute love for reptiles.
When asked what is his favourite animal he will invariably lift his hand and reply "Snakes are worth losing your finger for, I just love snakes". Hopefully he will never lose that finger!!
