sabi sabi ranger gallery: calvin kotze
From an early age Calvin has always loved nature. As a child he spent most of his days climbing mountains, exploring rivers and observing the smaller creatures Mother Nature had to offer. However he also loved working with people and after finishing school decided to pursue a career in sales and marketing.
After a few years in this field Calvin realized that the corporate world was not the right place for him. His passion for nature and photography were calling from deep within. He dreamed of a life where he could combine all of his talents and so began the quest to find a new career. His aspiration was to become a top class field guide.
He attended Bhejane Nature Training in KwaZulu-Natal, where he earned the Top Practical Student Award and qualified with his Field Guide Association of Southern Africa's (FGASA) Level 1 Marine Guiding, Level 1 Terrestrial Guiding, and Trail Guide Theory qualifications. During his training he developed a special place in his heart for birds, walking in the bush and watching animal behaviour. His motivation, spirit and the ambition to realize his goals garnered him his first bushveld opportunity, guiding for a five star lodge in KwaZulu-Natal.
This afforded Calvin the chance of gaining the experience he needed in order to achieve his long-term goal, working for Sabi Sabi. Calvin joined Sabi Sabi in 2011 and is thrilled to have recently earned his place as a fully-fledged ranger.
