A Week in the Bush Vol. 68

on Sep 10, 2015

As the first rains arrive, there is a build-up in anticipation for the change and transformation that awaits us.

It has been a very dry winter and with the first spring rains arriving, it brings an end to some harsh times for the bush and all its inhabitants. The weather caught all of us off guard and we experienced a couple of cold and wet days, something we didn’t experience in months. The rain certainly didn’t dampen our spirits as it was still a very good week with some amazing game viewing throughout.

The Fourways males managed to bring down a fully grown male buffalo and the tracks the next morning were also evident of an intense fight the previous night. One of the Southern Pride females joined them after hearing all the commotion. We had the chance to spend some quality time with them which allowed for some great photographic opportunities.

On the spotted cat front, guests had the opportunity to view Lisbon’s elusive cub and by giving them a lot of space, we are hoping we will see it more regularly. Maxabeni and Warthog Wallow were found together twice, with a lot of tension between them. Warthog Wallow also had a big fight after the Nottins female arrived on the scene where she had killed a steenbok. Guests got to experince some amazing interaction between these two females. White Dam and one of her cubs where seen on separate occasions.

We found the Sabi Sand pack of wild dogs as well and were treated with some spectacular sightings of the pups. On one occasion they were located just as they were eating on a duiker.

As we await the green flush and change in scenery we expect and are excited to have more spectacular game viewing in the week to follow.
