Pic of the Week #35
on Jul 21, 2017Lilac in the Sky
An Image I have been after for a very long time now, a Lilac-breasted Roller in flight!
Their amazing colours when in flight, amazes everyone. The beautiful colours catch the eye so easily! Despite there being so many Lilac-breasted Rollers around, trying to get one in flight is not as easy as it seems. This particular one had a nest in a dead tree close to the road which gave me the opportunity to capture it.

Editing used on this image
Although not being on the complete right settings, the image still came out as I had hoped. I was in Shutter Priority with a very fast shutter speed of 1/2000. The Roller was perched on a tree and kept returning to the hole in the tree so I just had to get into the right position and wait for the Roller to take to flight again, which it did. With the high shutter speed, I was able to freeze the bird in flight capturing the beautiful colours.
