A Week in the Bush Vol. 162

on Jul 05, 2017

With the dry winter months upon us, the bush has opened up beautifully and animals are frequenting the numerous waterholes around the reserve, allowing for some spectacular sightings out on safari and from the comfort of the lodges.

With the cooler mornings, even some of the animals have been enjoying a bit of a lie in, waiting for the sun’s rays to take effect.

Impala rams are now settling down after the rutting season and are much more aware of their surroundings than before.

Young kudu bulls are also seen sparing in preparation for mating seasons in years to come.

Two large Buffalo Bulls engage in a vicious battle for supremacy and dominance.

Little Bush’s cub has been active this week and been seen in Kigelia’s territory close to Little Bush Camp where she attempted numerous hunts, but to no avail.

Her mom, on the other hand, was more successful and was last seen finishing off her duiker kill.

After spotting his tracks in the southern sections of the reserve and eventually finding him in the northern section, Kashane lived up to the meaning of his name and showed us why he had been given the name in Shangaan, meaning “Far”.

The Southern Pride and Charleston male have been seen quite a bit this week, and with hunting success. They were all together, quenching their thirst, after finishing off a buffalo they had brought down. Their spirits were high with the little ones spending some time playing with dad!

We enjoyed a rather comical sighting of the lions a day later when the “King of the Jungle” was sent running as a herd of elephants came to drink at a waterhole where the lions were resting.

Until next time...
