Lions playing

Franscois Rosslee Lioncub Final

Lion sightings have really been out of this world, and with many cubs in the pride, there is always time for them to play around.

They would try and climb up trees and as soon as one gets halfway up, another would come running and pull the one in the tree down by its tail! Later on they start hiding behind trees and that’s when I got this amazing photo!

Just as the cub was pulled down the tree, he peeked around the side to check where the others were and I was in the perfect position.

His claws came out and his eyes were wide open - that’s when I clicked and got the shot.

Equipment used

  • Camera – Canon 600D
  • Lens and focal length – Sigma 150 – 600mm; f/5-6.3 DG OS

Settings used to capture this image

  • ISO – 800 The light was not great in that it was changing a lot and the lions were in a thicket which made the object even darker.
  • Aperture of f- 5.6 that’s the lowest I could go with my lens and I wanted to get the mouth and claw in focus.
  • 1/640 shutter speed – I could not take my shutter higher as then my image would have been too dark or I would have had to make my ISO more which means my picture would become too grainy.

Editing used on this image

In this image, everything was good so the only thing I did was push up my Whites and give it a bit of contrast so the lions’ face and claws popped out a bit more.
