A Week in the Bush Vol. 156
on May 24, 2017Autumn and Winter may not be seasons enjoyed by a lot of people, but out here at Sabi Sabi, we get to enjoy fantastic daytime temperatures and some amazing sights. We hope you enjoy this week’s highlights...
Out here in the wilderness, we are fortunate enough to have a beautiful night sky and on clear nights we are blessed to be able to gaze up into the heavens and bear witness to some amazing night skies.
One of the greatest mysteries ever, the Milky Way Galaxy!
On a fantastically clear evening we can make out Orion and Taurus locked in their eternal battle for supremacy in the heavens.
The beauty of night carries over to the following day as it brings with it some spectacular sunrises!
A pack of Wild Dogs had a successful hunt as they managed to take down a rather large impala, after which they went into a deep sleep.
We had numerous sightings of White Dam’s male cub who surprised us one evening as Sheldon and Doc were busy setting up for their evening sundowner when Doc spotted the cub up a tree in the distance. In another sighting, he narrowly missed a hunting attempt on a Scrub Hare.
Little Bush's sub adult cub put on a wonderful display of a leopard’s elegance for one of our guests who was on his first ever African safari.
Kigelia was briefly seen before wandering into an impenetrable thicket.
A Lesser Bushbaby stays still just long enough to capture this image of an elusive primate.
There are some colourful birds on the South African plains, and there are fewer as colourful and beautiful as the Lilac-breasted Roller!
We had a wonderful experience watching a herd of elephants feed. They are incredibly careful about what they eat and choose only the best morsels.
A magnificent male giraffe stands out in stark relief against the glowing evening sky.
A big hippo bull showed this smaller one who's in charge at this watering hole.
A beautiful male kudu made his way out from a thicket, his hair like liquid gold with the sun shining through it.
This male zebra stepped out into the only ray of sunlight shining through the broken tree canopy and it highlighted him beautifully.
The Southern Pride have been seen quite a bit this week. After finishing off their recent buffalo kills, they were on the move again, covering a fair distance and despite this, there was still time for fun and games amongst pride members. They remained alert to any potential meal as feeding such a large pride is quite a task!
Until next time...
