Pic of the Week #14

Intrepid gaze

Sheldon Hooper Zebra 23 12 16 Final

This zebra stallion had separated himself from the rest of the herd and as a result, when the sun eventually broke through the clouds above, it caught only him in its glint and missed all the others, highlighting him in relation to the rest who were all in darkness. The shadow of the clouds kept the trees in the background the bluish colour that lends the striking contrast in this image by creating quite a diverse background.

Equipment used

Camera – Canon 7Dmkii

Lens and Focal length – Sigma 150 – 600mm F5-6.3 Contemporary

Settings used to capture this image

ISO 400 – Sunny subject so there was adequate lighting so this is a good ISO to be at to promote a higher shutter speed.

Aperture f5.6 – The lowest possible aperture so as to blur out the background as you see in the image.

Shutter 1/1000 – I used a mid-speed shutter speed to blow out the clouds in the sky so that there was not too much detail to draw away from the stripes of the zebra below.

Editing used on this image

As with most of my images, only basic editing was used so as to bring up the whites/highlights quite a bit and then also dropping the shadows to darken the stripes and bring up the contrast without increasing the saturation too much.
