A Week in the Bush Vol. 137

on Jan 12, 2017

Despite the welcome rains, and quite a lot of it, it hasn’t put a dampener on sightings! We have seen some great sightings this past week. We hope you enjoy this week’s selection of highlights.

A wonderful sight to see as the rivers are flowing again. This is a magnificent sight witnessed from the deck at Selati Camp.

The week started off with the Southern Pride taking down a massive buffalo bull; which lasted them until the morning. The cubs have been very playful in the rains, with the adults opting for a bit of cover. The cubs are growing so quickly and their play-fighting is getting more and more rough!

Keeping with the cats – we have had regular sightings of the resident leopards.

Kigelia was spotted a long distance from the road atop a termite mound and after a while she became active and came very close to the road where we had a great view of her as she made her way through the bushes.

White Dam’s cub has been exceptionally busy and we are seeing much more of him than we used to. He is developing marvellously.

Towards the end of the week, Little Bush was resting in a tree and silently observing a herd of impala. Before long, she descended the tree and had an unsuccessful hunt. What a great sighting!

Moving on to her cub... We had an amazing sighting of her as she showed interest in an elephant calf who had wandered off from the rest of the herd. She later lost interest, and possibly for good reason!

Maxabeni and the Tatowa female have been seen mating. With the frequency of their bouts, we suspect it is still in the early stages.

Around almost every corner, we have been seeing animals – from the big, right down to the small and cute!

Until next week...
