A Week in the Bush Vol. 134

on Dec 22, 2016

The lions got the week underway as they ended last week with another successful buffalo hunt close to Bush Lodge. Throughout the week, the Pride have stayed in close proximity to where the youngest lioness is denning. We do believe she has recently given birth as she is lactating and makes regular visits between the Pride and her den site. In our last sighting of them this week, they were on the move in search of their next meal whilst the cubs played around in the mud!

The Charleston males have been wandering around a bit this week but we have still enjoyed some good sightings of them as captured here in the rain whilst searching for the females.

With the high temperatures of late, hippos and buffalo have been keeping themselves cool in waterholes, pans and wallows.

We have had numerous fantastic elephant sightings, from a big bull chasing a buffalo to some youngsters wrestling whilst the adults tried to nap!

A first for the season, a Blue Wildebeest calf who couldn’t have been more than a couple of weeks old!

And also lots of little impalas running around...

This young bush baby was very inquisitive and watched us atop of a tree branch.

A dwarf mongoose pauses for a moment to check us out and allowed for this awesome reflection shot.

Bird sightings have been amazing, with some migratory birds returning back to the reserve.

We had a brief visit by the Toulon Pack of wild dogs who were all in a very playful mood allowing for a great sighting of them.

Maxabeni has been seen patrolling his territory and covering a huge amount of distance in doing so.

Possibly the sighting of the week - we finish off this week’s blog with an incredible sighting of the food fight between White Dam’s sub-adult cub and the Mahlathini male...

Until next week...
