A Week in the Bush Vol. 130

on Nov 24, 2016

Our Safari Team have been kept on their toes this week with some spectacular sightings from the Big 5, plains game, birdlife, as well as many other smaller things! We hope you enjoy this week’s recap of some of our favourite sightings of the week...

Birdlife has been in abundance yet again with some great sightings of Eagles being mobbed, to Hornbills enjoying succulent meals; sightings of Woodland Kingfishers who have now returned to the bush; to just some beautiful sights of some of our favourites.

Plains game are reaping the rewards of fresh tufts of grass from the rains over the past couple of weeks. Open plains are now a carpet of green, a transformation that came almost overnight after the first rains.

Elephants are plentiful and many sightings have been spent admiring these huge mammals as they go about their daily routines.

Maxabeni has been seen on numerous occasions this week – looking in fantastic condition and seemingly quite content with life.

As always, Little Bush and her cub allowed for great sightings this week. They were seen on an impala kill with the cub getting up to her usual antics by playing around and then heading off from mom to stalk some mongooses!

The two Charleston males have been busy with patrols after the rains and seen not too far from the Southern Pride. We had an awesome sighting of them one evening as they woke from their sleep and put on quite a display with much flashing of teeth and flexing of muscles before setting off on their boundary patrol.

Monday morning was an exceptional one for the lions of Sabi Sabi with the Southern Pride taking down 2 buffalo! The lions were resting at a waterhole when they caught scent of a herd of buffalo not too far away... Franscois and Kyle managed to capture both kills as they happened. For more on the first kill, read about it in Kyle’s blog, Patience is Key.

We finish off this week’s blog with a special sighting which Sheldon managed to capture of a female Side-striped Jackal who was suckling four very tiny pups. The little ones were incredibly curious as to what we were and mom reluctantly let them near but also had them keep their distance with little nips and nudges.
