Why you need to come (back) on Safari

on Nov 15, 2016

To travel enriches the soul. Many of us have bucket lists with breathtaking places to see and once-in-a-lifetime things to experience.

This blog explores the reasons why going on Safari is not just a tick off the list... and why people just keep coming back!

First of all, the main reason we all enjoy safari so much is to be surrounded by unspoilt wilderness. To be a spectator to what Mother Nature has scripted for us. The best part of safari is that you never know what to expect! Unlike a tour to a landmark, going out on the game viewing vehicle is incredibly exciting and unpredictable. You never know what you are going to see next!

Even if you have seen the 'Big 5' (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) before... no sighting is ever the same. This is why us as rangers can never get bored of our jobs, as we may see the same animals on a daily basis, but they are always doing something different and there is always something to learn from it. Not to mention the other hundreds of animals to see other than the Big 5 which are just as exceptional!

Seasons are constantly changing! A favourite question posed by many people is, “what time of year is best for safari?” The truth is... each season has its own special features. It's a completely different experience going on safari in winter than in the summer. It's most definitely worth the trip to witness the changing of seasons on safari!

Sunrises and sunsets. The best in the world! I always get butterflies in my stomach while having that first cup of coffee in the morning, watching the beautiful sunrise over the trees. There's nothing in the world like it. The birds start to sing as they celebrate the beginning of another day in Africa! Sunsets are always enjoyed whilst having 'sundowners' in the African bush. This is when we stop in the middle of our safari and enjoy some refreshments and snacks whilst admiring the golden sunsets! No day is ever the same...

Anyone for a walk? Africa on foot - what a humbling and phenomenal experience! Walking is an underrated activity but is without a doubt one of the best things to experience out there. Walking is where your senses are heightened and you have the opportunity to smell, hear and see all nature has to offer from the animal's perspective. Everything that is missed from being on the open safari vehicle is made up for when on foot. To view animals on their level is an experience which can only be described by doing it yourself!

This is only but a few reasons to come (back) on Safari. What's your reason?
